Working Backwards from a Result
If you know where a calculation finished, can you reconstruct exactly where it started? This is the central idea of working backwards: use a known end state to uncover an unknown beginning by tracing the stated stages in reverse. The method is not a guess and it is not simply reading a question from its last sentence to its first; the mathematical process itself determines each step.
