Lesson 7: Firewalls, Filtering and Network Defence

An organisation’s network may receive thousands of connection attempts while still needing to provide email, online services and access to shared applications. How can it remain useful without treating every connection as acceptable or blocking everything? The central idea is selective control: communication must be available where it supports an authorised purpose, while unnecessary routes are limited because they can increase opportunities for attack.
