Calculating with Upper and Lower Bounds
If a length is written as 8 cm to the nearest centimetre, does that prove the real length is exactly 8 cm? Surprisingly, it could have many decimal values, because rounding hides some information. The central idea is that a rounded value represents an interval of possible original values, called an error interval.
