Why Britain’s Landscapes Differ from Region to Region

How can the flat fields of East Anglia, the steep valleys of Wales and the mountains of the Scottish Highlands all exist within islands that are relatively close together? The answer is not one single cause, because landforms, rocks, water, soils, vegetation and human activity have interacted over very long periods. This lesson asks what the word landscape includes and why regional differences do not represent completely separate natural worlds.
